This year marks 30 years since The Soundtrack of Our Lives released their classic debut album Welcome to the Infant Freebase, which became a bestseller, won a Grammis, produced a hit with “Instant Repeater ’99,” and laid the foundation for the band’s international reputation. This summer, the anniversary will be celebrated with a major tour, including an evening at the historic Mosebacketerrassen in Stockholm on August 21.
After a hiatus of more than a decade, The Soundtrack of Our Lives resumed activity in the summer of 2023. Fans and critics alike rejoiced, and the shows left the band wanting more. As singer Ebbot Lundberg put it:
“We all felt it might be time to test what happens to our DNA if we play together again. And the energy was there—the DNA strands were intact despite some wear and tear.”
The Soundtrack of Our Lives was formed in Gothenburg in the mid-1990s as a kind of supergroup, with members from Union Carbide Productions, Nymphet Noodlers, Whipped Cream, and Mindjive. The 1996 single “Instant Repeater ’99” became a major hit, and the debut album Welcome to the Infant Freebase earned the band a Grammis for Newcomer of the Year. Their reputation soon spread beyond Sweden’s borders—most notably, the Gallagher brothers of Oasis took a liking to them and brought them along on tour. Their third album Behind the Music led to a minor breakthrough in the United States, and in 2002 they were nominated for a Grammy in the Alternative Rock category.
In 2022, The Soundtrack of Our Lives—consisting of Ebbot Lundberg (vocals), Ian Person (guitar), Mattias Bärjed (guitar), Martin Hederos (keyboards), Kalle Gustafsson Jerneholm (bass), and Fredrik Sandsten (drums)—were inducted into the Swedish Music Hall of Fame.
