If you blinked, you probably missed that he’s been away from stand-up—but now the acclaimed and fearless comedian Marcus Berggren is back on stage. After a sold-out spring run at Lisebergsteatern in Gothenburg, he’s heading out on tour this fall.
Has the show turned out the way you imagined?
“I’m doing my dream show—the one I would’ve wanted to see myself. It’s a wild mix of stand-up, music, poetry, improvisation, and audience interaction. But it’s only now that I’ve had the knowledge to actually pull it off. I feel like a karate apprentice who’s been up on a mountain training with a grumpy old master, and has now come down to show off my new tricks,” says Marcus.
When Marcus Berggren returns to the stand-up stage with his new show “Marcus Berggren Finds Home”, the table of contents reads: 75 minutes of rapid-fire laughs delivered at machine-gun pace. A chance to leave your worries in the foyer and step into Marcus’s cheerful world of absurd everyday humor. The show is about something simple: moving back home. And something difficult: finding home. And all the ridiculous missteps along the way. Marcus also brings a guitar—along with zero inhibitions. Plus a poem about a guy named Göran.
Is it possible to find home while on a full tour?
“Yes—there are so many cities where you can find a sense of home. The only thing I love more than Gothenburg is leaving it, so I can come back again. This time it feels extra exciting to head out, because I feel like Santa Claus bringing a gift people didn’t know they wished for. I feel like a bit of a trickster selling a ‘miracle cure’ that actually works,” says Marcus.
