When the November darkness gives way to Advent stars appearing in windows, Amanda Ginsburg sets out on her very first Christmas tour. With newly written holiday music finding its place between mulled wine and Christmas ham, old traditions are accompanied by new tones.
Joining Amanda are musicians of top Scandinavian class: her close collaborator and co-composer Filip Ekestubbe (piano), Snorre Kirk (drums), and Niklas Fernqvist (double bass). The evening promises Amanda’s signature everyday observations and swing, wrapped in sparkling Christmas decorations and the scent of saffron buns from the subway kiosk.
“I don’t see myself as particularly traditional,” Amanda says, “but when it comes to Christmas music, I’ve realized I rarely reinvent myself. We need holiday music that reflects the times and traditions we live in today—music that stirs more than just our sense of nostalgia.”
With two Grammis awards and a unique ability to capture what she—and many others—experience in everyday life, Amanda has become one of Sweden’s most beloved jazz voices. Rooted in the Swedish singer-songwriter and jazz tradition, she creates music that feels both fresh and familiar at the same time.
