After last year’s deep dive into Music From “The Elder”, Glickman/Marks Sthlm now turns the time machine back just over a year, landing in 1980.
In 1980, KISS released Unmasked, the last album to feature the original lineup—at least on the album cover and in a music video. That autumn, the band embarked on a European tour with new drummer Eric Carr. The venues were smaller than before, and sales of the new album fell short of expectations. Meanwhile, a young band from England called Iron Maiden, whose career was rapidly taking off, joined the tour as support act. On October 9, the tour reached Eriksdalshallen in Stockholm, a true “holy grail” concert for both KISS and Iron Maiden fans in Sweden. Looking back, perhaps this shared tour can be seen as a symbolic passing of the torch in the rock world.
Over the course of a full day at Södra Teatern, we will revisit the year 1980 from the perspectives of both KISS and Iron Maiden, with a special focus on the tour they shared and their legendary Stockholm stop.
On stage, renowned KISS expert Alex Bergdahl will present a lecture on the band’s Unmasked era. The hosts of the Maidenpodden podcast reunite to discuss the hungry, ambitious early years of Iron Maiden. Both presentations will be accompanied by rarely seen archival footage from the period.
In addition, the entire Unmasked album will be performed live by Nighthawk—believed to be the first complete live performance of the album ever staged in Sweden.
