Wilmer X shift into “Next Gear”. On May 8, Wilmer X will release their new album Popmonster. Already tomorrow, the uplifting single “Nästa växel” (“Next Gear”) arrives as a first taste of the record.
Nisse Hellberg on the song:
“It’s easy to be grumpy and angry in music—much harder to be positive. But with ‘Nästa växel’ I wanted to capture the feeling that arises when we step on stage and meet the audience. That sense of us all coming together to have fun for two and a half hours.”
With the 2022 album Mer för dina pengar (“More for Your Money”)—their first in 17 years—Wilmer X proved that their bond with the audience remains as strong as ever. The album went straight to No. 1 on the Swedish charts. Both the band’s history and comeback were also portrayed in the acclaimed documentary Wilmer X – När tiden stannar (“When Time Stands Still”), which aired on SVT.
The comeback sparked a renewed creative drive, and now the band is ready with yet another new album. On the title Popmonster, Nisse Hellberg says:
“When I finished writing the last songs, I realized the material had more emphasis on choruses than ever before and was very pop-oriented for something coming from me. In fact, I said to myself: ‘What a pop monster you’ve made!’”
Wilmer X consists of Nisse Hellberg, Thomas Holst, Janne Lindén, Jalle Lorensson, and Sticky Bomb.
